"Our CS program has grown from 14 students in year 1 to over 100 kids in year 5! Some students have gone on to major in Computer Science at some of the top schools in the nation, and one student just graduated from Stanford and is now working on AI startups in NYC!"

A Decade of Impact

In 2015, the UTeach Institute launched the UTeach Computer Science initiative to address a growing demand for high-quality CS curriculum, empowering professional development, and sustained support for teachers stepping into computer science education.

Drawing on extensive experience in STEM teacher preparation at a top research university, we’ve learned that teachers thrive when they have access to dynamic, project-based curricula and continuous, personalized support. Our approach emphasizes hands-on learning, real-world applications, and professional development that equips any educator to confidently lead a computer science classroom. After introducing our first curriculum in 2015, we have continuously enhanced our resources and support to meet the evolving needs of teachers and students nationwide.

  • UTeach AP CS Principles curriculum was launched in 2015 through an NSF grant and became one of the first six College Board–endorsed providers.
  • UTeach AP CSA curriculum debuted in 2019 as part of a U.S. Department of Education grant, received College Board endorsement, and was redesigned in 2025 to align with College Board's revised course framework.
  • Free CS Micro-Credentials were developed in 2020 as part of a U.S. Department of Education grant.
  • Codio platform accounts were included with each license starting in 2021 to provide an enhanced experience for teachers and students.
  • UTeach Foundations of Cybersecurity curriculum was introduced in 2024, in collaboration with Teach Cyber.

"After switching to UTeach CS, I saw definite improvements in the way I was teaching, how well students grasped concepts, greater classroom engagement, and a huge increase in scores. Plus, enrollment in my CS courses increases each year and some students are even changing their intended major to CS."

—Charnelle W., South Dakota Teacher, Sioux Falls School District

Over the past decade, we've designed learning experiences that spark curiosity, unlock potential, and connect students to opportunities in computer science and cybersecurity. We have developed training, curricular resources, and ongoing support to transform any educator into an exceptional CS teacher. Together with our partner teachers, we’ve inspired thousands of students to build the skills and confidence needed to thrive in a technology-driven world.

Looking ahead, we’re expanding our impact by launching cutting-edge AI lessons and innovative PD for middle school educators, to prepare teachers and students for the future of computing.

"UTeach CS curriculum doesn’t just teach coding—it also transforms student engagement and confidence. The curriculum makes computer science accessible and exciting for everyone, and the results show in both test scores and student enthusiasm. After 25 years of teaching AP Computer Science, my students achieved the highest AP CSA test scores in our school’s history, thanks to partnering with UTeach CS last year. "
